English Trip - Les Miserables |
Memorable Performance at Radley College
On the evening of Tuesday 24th November, Year 8 and 4 lucky year 7 boys, together with four (even luckier) members of staff, enjoyed the first performance of Les Miserables at Radley College. This school edition of the classic French novel by Victor Hugo was performed entirely by students from Radley itself, as well as girls from local Prep and Senior Schools. Les Miserables is a timeless story of love, honour and humanity set amidst one of the most dramatic periods of French History. As an audience, it was hard to believe that we were not in the West End as we were literally swept away by the compelling performances of these amazingly talented young people. Our very own ex Elstree pupil Owen Petty, (renowned for his part as Judas in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ - Elstree’s senior play in 2004) virtually stole the show in his role as the cruel innkeeper Thenardier. A further two of Elstree’s old boys, William Elliot and Hal Bigland were part of the backstage crew. The story, adapted as a musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonbergof, unfolded dramatically moving and sensational singing, the maturity of some of the voices was truly incredible. This is sure to be an unforgettable experience for our boys.
