Head’s Welcome

At Elstree, we understand how important the first steps of starting school life are for any child and parent. Parents want their children to feel happy and secure, while children want an environment that’s stimulating and fun. It’s why we make that transition between home and school a whole lot easier and offer every child in the Early Years home visits or taster days before they even start.

A safe and stimulating environment at Elstree Pre-Prep

Elstree Pre-Prep is the coeducational Nursery and Pre-Prep department of Elstree School.  Founded in 1993, it is set alongside the main school within 150 acres of idyllic parkland and playing fields. It caters for around eighty girls and boys aged three to seven years.

Our bright and airy classrooms, outdoor play and learning areas, kitchen garden and designated woodland area, provide a safe and stimulating area for every child.

Made up of four year groups – Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 – we welcome children from the term they turn three until they are seven. After this, they can continue their Elstree education in the Prep School.

A love for learning that lasts a lifetime

In the same vein as Elstree Prep, our Pre-Prep school provides stimulating experiences for your children to adopt a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.

From three years old, our Early Years children are encouraged to develop independence and self-achievement. They visit our Woodland every Wednesday and take part in anything from mini-beast hunting and den building, to fruit  picking and willow tree weaving.

Learning in Key Stage 1 is also enriched with learning adventures, whether it’s lying on backs with sketchpads learning about perspective, writing stories influenced by woodland sounds, or getting a grasp on transport via a visiting pony and trap.

Above all, our team of dedicated teachers, help our children learn without realising they are even learning. It’s what makes Elstree Pre-Prep such a special school.

Alice Bond, our Head of Nursery and Pre-Prep is currently on maternity leave. If you would like to visit, Daisy Robertson, our Acting Head of Nursery and Pre-Prep would be delighted to show you around.
