Football Festivals for Year 2

It has been a busy and exciting week for Year 2 with the London Schools Football Festival on Monday against Merlin, Orchard House and Knightsbridge Schools and the Junior Soccer Tournament on Wednesday, at which we were joined by 15 other teams.

On both occasions we were blessed with wonderful sunshine and balmy temperatures. The Year 8 boys excelled in their role as referees, many of them reminiscing about their time in Year 2 and the excitement they felt as the festivals approached.  They obviously had many happy memories which I am sure will be true for this year’s participants too.

A wonderful atmosphere pervaded the playing fields as the children demonstrated their football skills in competitive matches which were occurring simultaneously on 6 pitches. There were some wonderful moments with great goals, magnificent defending and skilful tackling.  All of the games were played with great sportsmanship and friendship.  After hosting the Junior Soccer Tournament for 32 years, Home Farm won in an exciting and tense final against Ashford Hill.  Our congratulations to the team; we are looking forward to displaying the trophy!

Huge thanks to Steve Bates who masterminds the entire event and for the Year 8 boys and staff who acted as guides to the visiting teams and as referees.
