Elstree Fencing Academy at British U10 Foil Championships

Elstree took a small but talented squad to the UK Championships in Telford last weekend, to compete in the U10 foil.

After a long drive up and meal courtesy of Ronald McDonald, we had an enjoyable overnight stay in Ironbridge Youth Hostel. This was a converted old mill, which provided plenty of fun activities for the boys to do.  Massive full English and Continental breakfasts fuelled the boys for their many fencing matches at nearby Much Wenlock. The boys fenced in poules of 5, with both Sebastian and Finley winning 2 of their opening matches. Sebastian, Oscar P, Arthur and Oscar H performed better in the second round of matches.

A great performance from Finley to beat the current UK No.3 moved Finley into 7th place, before the elimination round. The boys fenced at least 9 tiring matches each and continued to improve as the competition progressed, scoring many points against more experienced fencers. We ended up with Finley 8th in UK, Oscar P in 10th and Sebastian 11th in UK. This was a great result in their first ever competition and bodes well for the future.

Many thanks to Mr Bell and Mr Smith who accompanied the boys to the competition. The boys did brilliantly.
