Declamations Poetry Competition

The annual Elstree Declamations Poetry Competition saw a fantastic array of poems and speeches performed by boys from Years 3 to 8. In the first round, boys had to learn their chosen piece off by heart and deliver it in front of their class in an engaging manner using both their vocal skills and body language but no props were allowed.

The top boys from each class went forward to the Finals which took place in the School Hall in front of a packed audience of parents, relatives and friends. We are most grateful to our Guest Judge, Margaret Gilmore, a past parent and a writer, broadcaster and analyst who had a difficult task in choosing winners from an exceptionally strong field of participants.

Congratulations to the Junior School Winner, Tristan Betts who performed “Not the Dreaded Photo Album” by Paul Cookson, Middle School Winner, Jensen Mackay with “A Visit to Yalding” by John Coldwell and Senior School Winner, Tom Pullan who presented, “Sing Song Time” by Joyce Grenfell. Well done to everyone who took part!
