Admissions Procedure

Applying for a Place

Applying to Elstree is very straightforward. The first step is to call our Head of Admissions, Alexandra Harrison, on T: 0118 971 3302 or get in touch via email registrar@elstreeschool.org.uk to request a prospectus, book a place on an Open Morning or arrange a visit.

In the meantime, you can view a digital version of our prospectus:

We do suggest that you register your child, either before or after your visit, by completing and returning the Registration form together with the Registration fee of £150 to ensure that your child’s name is on our Entry List.  On completion of a successful taster day, we offer places based on a first come, first served basis to those who have registered and therefore it is advisable to do so as early as possible.

You will then be contacted in the year before your child is due to start – in order to confirm the place, you will need to complete an Entry Form and make a Deposit payment of £1,500 which will be credited to your final account.

The School welcomes pupils from all countries and reserves the right in the situation where a Child Student Visa is required, to add an additional charge for the processing and administration work associated with the initial visa application and ongoing documentation.  The one-off fee for this is £1000 which will be added to the first school invoice.  Please see our Fees Policy for further details.

Assessment

Where appropriate, a report will be requested from the Headteacher of the child’s current school.  All children joining Elstree in Years 3 to 8 will be required to do a taster day to spend a day with their prospective class as part of the admissions process or attend a discovery day.  During the day, informal assessments will take place in a minimum of English and Mathematics, and some Cognitive Ability Tests in order to gain a broad view of a child’s ability and aptitude. This is not an entrance examination but an attempt to ensure that the School can most effectively gauge the suitable entry for that pupil into a particular form, set or stream. These tests may also be applied to pupils entering in Years 2 at the discretion of the school.
